Chinese Volunteering & Teaching in the USA
Americans Volunteering & Teaching in China

The Sino-American Society (SAS), a non-governmental and non-profit organization with the goal of improving relations and building lasting friendship among people, wishes to give you the opportunity to not only travel between China and the United States, but to experience the real life and the spirit of the country.  Immersion programs are the perfect way to live like a true member of the community and to fully integrate into a new culture.  We have two exciting options, teaching or volunteering, so we are sure to have an option to meet your needs.   This is your chance to get inside the country, become involved in the lives of the people and make lifelong friends.

Chinese Volunteering in the USA

  • What You Can Do     Serving as a volunteer Teaching Aide and/or Tutor in Chinese Language and Culture in primary, middle, high schools and colleges.
  • Eligibility     College educated, fluent in English and able to communicate with the U.S. public about the cultural aspects of China. You must have good health and communication skills.
  • Placement Areas       Cities and towns on the East and West coasts as well as the Midwest area of the United States.
  • Length of Program    Minimum 2 weeks up to two months.  Special programs of varying length can be arranged.
  • What You Get    Guaranteed work placement secured prior to arrival, paperwork coordination (visa documentation); pre-departure orientation in China; free lodging and meals during the volunteer service.
  • Visa Applications      Program participants apply for their entry visa with the necessary visa document provided by the American host schools.
  • Travel Expenses       Roundtrip international air tickets, travels in the USA and personal expenses are the responsibility of the program participants themselves.

Chinese Teaching in the USA
  • What Will I Be Able to Do     Teaching the Chinese Language and culture in American Colleges, Universities and High Schools.
  • Eligibility     Must be at least 22 years of age with a BA and higher, professional Chinese and English teachers, fluent English and able to communicate with the U.S. public about the cultural aspects of China.  You must have good health and communication skills. Good in health and communication. Priority will be given to applicants with a certificate of teaching Chinese as a second language issued by the State Hanban.
  • Placement Areas       Cities and towns on the East and West coasts as well as the Midwest area of the United States.
  • Length of Program    Minimum one semester (4 months) up to two full school years.
  • What You Get    A paid teaching position secured prior to arrival in U.S., similar amount of wage as American colleague, paperwork coordination (visa document) pre-departure orientation in China, and lodging assistance in the USA.
  • Visa Application Program participants apply for their entry visa with the necessary visa document provided by the American host schools.
  • Travel Expenses       Roundtrip international air tickets, travels in the US and personal expenses are the responsibility of the program participants themselves.

Americans Volunteering in China
  • What Will I Be Able to Do     Serving as a volunteer Teaching Aide and/or Tutor in English language and U.S. culture in Chinese primary, middle, high schools and colleges.
  • Eligibility     Native speakers of the English language, fluent in English and able to communicate the cultural aspects of the USA. Volunteers can be accompanied by their minor children.
  • Placement Areas       Cities and Towns in central Shaanxi Province of China.
  • Length of Program    Minimum 2 weeks up to two months.
  • What You Get    Complete hosting services by SAS to include pre-departure orientation, questions and answers, and volunteer placement. You will be picked up at airport upon arrival, dropped off at airport at departure, on-site orientation, free lodging and meals during the volunteer service, and be assigned a full or part-time English speaking teacher to assist in communications in work and in daily life.
  • Visa Applications      Program participants apply for a 30-day or 60-day tourist visa at a Chinese consulate general or Chinese Embassy near your home.
  • Travel Expenses       Roundtrip international air tickets, travels in China and personal expenses are the responsibility of the program participants themselves.

Americans Teaching in China
  • What Will I Be Able to Do       Teaching the English language and U.S. culture in Chinese high schools and colleges. 
  • Eligibility     Must be at least 22 years of age with a BA and higher, first priority will be given to professional English teachers in the USA who have good health and communication skills.
  • Placement Areas       Cities and towns in central Shaanxi Province as well as in Midwest of China.
  • Length of Program    Minimum one semester (4 months) up to two full school years.
  • What You Get    Complete hosting services by SAS to include visa invitations from Chinese schools, a paid teaching position offer secured prior to departure for China (monthly wage 3500 to 5000 Yuan RMB based on educational background and teaching experience); an assigned full or part-time English speaking teacher to assist in communications in work and in daily life.
  • Visa Applications      Program participants apply for their work visas (Z-visa) in the Chinese Embassy or consulate general once you have received the visa invitation and related certificate provided by the host school and authorized by the government departments concerned.
  • Travel Expenses       Roundtrip international air tickets, travel, room and board and personal expenses in China are the responsibility of the program participants themselves unless other arrangements are made by the host school according to the agreement by both parties.
